“Hare Krishna”
Ceto-dharpana-marjanam bhava-maha- Davagni-nirvapanam Shreyah kairava-candrika-vitranam Vidya-vadhu-jivanam, Anandambudhi-varddhanam prati-padam Purnamrtasvadanam Sarvatma-snapanam param vijayate Sri-Krishna-sankirtanam. (#1 of Shikshashtakam, Eight Shlokas of Instruction)
Let there be supreme victory by chanting Shri Krishna’s name, which cleanses the mirror of the heart and extinguishes the great forest conflagration of material existence. This chanting is like the cool moonlight streaming on the white lotus of good fortune and final beatitude. It is the life and soul of the bride, vidya (Self-knowledge, wisdom). Chanting the holy name of Shri Krishna expands and swells the ocean of bliss. At every stage, it imparts the sweetest nectar. It is a soothing bath, as it were, for the Self of all living beings.
